Good & free paint.net

After you spend quite a lot of money on your new pc, or mac for that matter, plus your brand new digicam there is always the forgotten outlay for a nice image editor. However even the entry level image editing software suites are still quite expensive.

However there is more and more good freeware available, and paint.net is one of them. This editor packs quite a punch in just a 1.6mb download. There are effects, layers, corrections, and a very handy color selection wheel. The effects section alone has 29 different filters for you to try out. All of the effects are also more or less real-time, you change the settings and you can see the results for your entire selection immediately. If you like what you see just press Ok, otherwise cancel.

The auto level is fast and mostly gives the instant results that you are looking for in a photo that is not spot-on in exposure. The curves section for both limunosity and rgb, is also very proffesional and handy.

All in all, it's one of the best image editing packages, and because of it's small size it starts up quick too. Give it a try ! You can download it -here-
